Monument in the capital

Wednesday 7th December 2022

I'm in a bnb in Pretoria after a lovely day at the Voortrekker Monument. My tour guide trainer invited me to join the group although I've finished this level. It gave me a chance to observe and learn plus it got me into the Monument complex for free.

The last time I was on the premises,  I was a young twenty something in the eighties on a TV production.  It was a massive event with lots of crew, I remember the people but not really the event.  No doubt it was for the celebration of the 16th of December which was a public holiday called 'Day of the vow/covenant '. It's now called the Day of Reconciliation after our troubled history.

The monument complex has changed in so many good ways and it's really impressive.  The building is huge, but the positioning and view is amazing. I'd forgotten how pretty the Pretoria landscape is.  We didn't get to the top landing due to time constraints and a very strong wind that built up in the afternoon.  I'm returning to the monument tomorrow for more learning and I'm hoping to get to the top and drink some condensed milk coffee.

My bnb is comfortable and spacious and is at the edge of Sunnyside. I'm hoping there's enough flat roads for me to run through in the morning.
