Monday morning up with the lark...
Well not quite, but I did feel like going out for a run! Which was very unusual after a month of not running at all. I knew it would hurt so I took it easy and did only 4km.
After my sister returned from yoga, and I'd showered, we decided to go for a walk in the Headland Cemetery for fun. Yes, that's my kind of fun, lol. But it had a twist to it having a connection to South Africa. The Cemetery is called Spion Kop after the battle fought on the South African hill during the Boer War for Ladysmith. I don't usually pay much attention to battles and wars because it makes me sad but this piqued my interest.
We walked along the street where more new houses are being built and entered into the cemetery from the top gate. It has a lovely view of an old pier, the Steetley Pier, which I still need to investigate and the wind was quiet which made the area far more pleasant to visit.
Many of the graves have sunk into the sand and it's now more of a nature reserve than cemetery. I spotted one reference to a young son dying in Johannesburg but most of the stones were hard to read. It was a pleasant walk, and there were a few dog walkers too, which was a little unusual.
We then drove along to the marina side where there is a variety of different houses which I'd been wanting to see up close. I'm loving being able to see people's homes but I do have to remind myself not to push my nose up against their living room windows.
After our walk, it started to drizzle and I laughed and said to my sister that I was getting tired of the cheerful weather, I'm not sure how this will affect my planned run tomorrow morning, however the stiffness in my body, currently might be more of a hazard than the drizzle, lol!
