Tues 1 March 2022
Another day of magic and beauty. I woke up early and felt too excited to go back to sleep at 5am. I have been hearing so many fascinating stories that my brain is busier than usual. The sunrise around 6am was stunning. The hotelier was up too and we both stood in the lobby, in our pj's, in awe at the masterpiece being presented to us for a few moments only.
I calmed down enough to have a therapy session online and pack my car, eager to meet my new friends at the Karoo Artist's Cafe for breakfast. I did some Katryn videos and am beginning to feel a lot better doing this blue wig thing in public. The breakfast was tasty and the conversation fascinating albeit short. It seemed like there was so much to hear, ask and share but time was limited and I set off doing some building hunting.
There is a stunning example of an Art Deco building that was once a bank that is now standing unused. I had one of those 'I want it' moments then I heard that the possible asking price is around R2mil. It's still jingling around my mind, much like the Old Mill in Somerset East. A girl can dream. Plus sometimes they come true if I look at my beautiful car.
The Cafe owner, Juliette, had told me about a friend of hers who I must meet next time, who is a concert pianist who returned to South Africa after many years abroad. I again regretted my haste in booking future accommodation as I could have stayed another night in this charming town. But as I was taking my foot tour around the church, I heard the most magnificent piano music coming from inside. Of course, it was this stunning lady practicing her music for an upcoming concert with cello accompaniment for a tv program. We chatted for ages but I was aware that I was taking up her rehearsal time so I continued with my photo gathering and thanked her for her time.
Magic indeed. With nine days left for me to use my prize car, I am moving from Bethulie tonight to Bloemfontein tomorrow. Inching closer to my home city.
