Matjiesfontein and I might have met a few new maatjies too.
I had booked this tour with the fantastic historian Dr Dean Allen and I was super excited to be able to attend it. We set out for the famous-in-the-British-Empire village that Scotsman John Logan had set up in the late 1800s.
We stopped firstly at the cemetery to check out the Scots' final resting place in the private cemetery about 10km from the village. It was blazing hot and Dean painted the picture of the fall of the Brits in the Boer War. Kilts and bagpiped up, I think stealth wasn't a factor at the time. I love cemeteries and there's always fascinating stories to be read off the headstones.
We then went onto the stunning village which is sadly often driven past by on the long road to Cape Town. I had no idea there was so much to it. I loved it.
I did a couple of my character skits here, here and here if you want a quick tour. As I was doing my skits, I was spotted by some of my fellow tour mates. Later at the pool they said, there was a lady in a bright blue wig walking along the street with a selfie stick, doing a narration or something. I started to laugh and then realised that they didn't know it had been me. I showed them my picture and we all had a laugh.
Meal together tonight so another reason for my 'early' blog.
