Loch Lomond shores

Friday 23rd September 2022

I woke around 5am thinking I was hearing strange owls,  turns out it might have been foxes. But I tossed and turned for the next long while and ended up dozing off again around 7am. It's quite dark in the early morning now and I don't remember the darkness happening quite so quickly in the seasons here, but then I haven't stayed as long as I have now since 2007.

In August 2007, the 'sisterhood' walked the West Highland Way which is 100 miles and we took 7 days to do it. One of the 'sisters' was Jackie, a teacher friend who we managed to meet with today, for lunch. It was lovely seeing her again, now she is a retired grandmother but doesn't seem to have aged at all.

Pauline then took me with her to a small spot on the banks of the Bonnie Loch Lomond, called Luss. Here she met up with another teacher to swim in the open water. I stood safely on the sand and admired the view. (My second time watching women swim in cold water this trip.)

They stayed in for about 30 minutes while I sat in my old faithful ski jacket ( circa 1987) and sipped my hot coffee.  They looked invigorated when they got out but i can't be swayed as I'm still scared of a cold cycle in the shower. The local ducks came to inspect the supplies and some took crumbs out of my hand.  Once the coffee was finished, they waddled back to their water where some frisky business took place after an elaborate head nodding display.

The drive back was stunning with the Autumn leaves licking the pavements.
