Limbo lingers

At 3am my electricity went out. Sadly, for us in South Africa, that's not an unusual occurrence. But what was unusual was the wild wind rattling the windows, we don't get much wind in Johannesburg. My brain woke up at 4.30am and I wasn't even mentally packing nor moving stuff. I was just awake with my eyes closed. I think it might have been called worry.

My radio sang a cheerful good morning at 6am but I had already donned my jacket lying under the blankets. The 'artic breeze' promised by the weather experts lived up to it's predictions as I tentatively scrolled through my Facebook feed to see the latest on the rioting and looting in the country.

I realised I was getting sucked in to the despair again so fortunately had my podcast and some other work to distract me. I canceled my car service that was planned for the day and decided to be constructive at home.

Ahem.

Let's just say I ended up crawling back under my blankets to make up for my lost sleep in the sunny patch of the afternoon. I woke with a start and wondered why my alarm hadn't gone off and it was so bright. Plus I was squinting my eyes trying to figure out why the small hand of the clock was pointing to the 4. It took me a long moment to realise it was still Tuesday!

I almost felt guilty for not packing anything. But I did internal packing. I packed my worries aside and got back to my quiet, calm oasis in my neighbourhood. Stay in the moment, I heard my wise voice say. And pleased to report that I listened.

Limbo is necessary sometimes.
