Sunday 9th January 2023
My last full day of Modderfontein estate life. I woke up with a start and I'd slept past 5am without hearing Rusty at the door. He was waiting patiently and we set off on another cool morning.
I'd planned to run round the dam again being Sunday and quiet traffic wise. So after a good gallop in the dog park we made our way to the main gate and I ran round the dam in the reverse direction. The views were much better than the other way, and they'd cut the long grass so many more birds were visible. It was a lovely run and I felt sad at the thought of leaving the area.
Modderfontein is a small village that has been overlooked for development until the past few years. Now blocks of flats are springing up and new roads are scouring out the untouched lands. But it still has a lovely feel to it for me. I was researching the town and discovered that there was another Modderfontein in the Ceres region in the Cape. That village has Scottish connections with historical records of James McGregor owning the land at the beginning of the 20th century. More places to visit popping up on my wish list.
I'm quite excited about one of my projects and the Scottish connections. Now all I need is a car that works, but that's tomorrow's issue. For now I'm snuggling down with Rusty and the occasional visit by Chutney the cat.
