Keep on walking...

One of the immediate deciding factors for my choosing Durban to spend so long in, was a great Facebook page- Durban Walking Tours. She showcases the beautiful buildings and today I had my second tour with her. Only 4 of us in total meant that we moved inconspicuously through the suburb of Berea admiring the churches, schools and stunning homes. She named this tour 'The good, the bad and the ugly' and I was amazed by all of it.

Durban has many buildings of the Art Deco style and our guide loves it too, so she showed us many great examples of which people must still be happily living in. We also visited a beautiful building which is now under the guardianship of the university, and in the garden lives the city's oldest tree. Botanists have struggled to date it, but put it around 500 years old. It's massive branches reminded me of the elephants that used to roam the area about 180 years ago. Standing beside it, I wondered on it's stories because no doubt it is very happy where it's rooted.

Personally, I was uprooted at a young age by coming to South Africa with my family. A consequence of that was my need to find my roots and my space and for 30 years I had one. Right now that space has shifted. My roots are within and much like our 7km tour today, my life is a case of 'just keep on walking '....
