I finally figured out the correct pillow combination at long last, lol. So I slept well apart from the thunder jolting me awake at around 2am and then 4.30am. Highveld storms are on a different scale. Big, loud and window rattley, is how it rolls and again I was reminded of the extreme contrasts of this unusual city.
My people that live here though are wonderful and today I had sessions with two of my amazing friends. The first was my old clinic partner who worked on my body, which had many many sore spots. The second was my lovely sports massage friend who worked out the remaining lumps and bumps.
Driving on the Johannesburg roads during loadshedding makes for a different story though. All nice thoughts about Joziburgers being nice go out of the window. It's like the wild west. Cars dice ahead, trucks thunder down in the third lane making all the cowboys weave around them. The second lane is extremely bumpy because of bad workmanship so my Smartie has to avoid that one otherwise I might create a custom made sunroof. It's madness and I must admit I was tapping a little to calm myself down when I got caught in some peak hour traffic on the highway. But then I was waved in a lane when trying to figure out what my Google Maps was saying so much smiling and thanking. I think driving in Johannesburg should be an honourary skill mentionable on CVs. It shows to the dexterity and survival mechanisms of us gold rush town dwellers.
And then the clivias and bougainvilleas are in bloom and all traffic stress is calmed down.
