My adventure today took me to a place completed in the year 2000 at the cost of R1.6 billion, and is hated by some and loved by others.
Montecasino in Fourways.
The fake Tuscan village replica with sky and rivers and cobblestone walkways houses a casino and many restaurants. Sadly a lot of businesses fell fowl to the pandemic as the 9.1 million annual visitors were prevented from visiting last year.
Today, the 9th August, was Women's Day in South Africa which gives the country a public holiday and Montecasino a nice boost of visitors. I was invited to lunch by special friends and it was great to talk to people with real faces instead of screens.
Personally I like the kitschy Italian feel of the centre. I have always had great meals there, seen nice shows at the theaters, done my 7minute 40 seconds PechaKucha talk plus performed my one stint of 'stand up comedy' in Joe Parker's club, so lots of fond memories there.
Today we ate sushi, so does that count for both Japan and Italy in one day? Haha
