It's the pits...

Sunday 6th August 2022

Waking up to lovely messages from my friends always brightens my day. This morning I'd been dreaming of working on a TV golf production again so I was very grateful to wake up.

Unfortunately my head felt a bit spacey again so we took it easy for the morning and decided on going for a walk later because it was too nice a day to waste.

My niece and her boys arrived after lunch and we set off on a scenic drive down to Seaham, a small village further up the coast. The coal mining towns are interesting because the different houses are still there despite the closure of the pits in the 70s. The pits were under the sea, my sister explained and there are still a couple of 'sea-coalers' making a living by collecting washed up coal off the beaches at low tide.

By the time we got to Seaham, we realised something was happening in the town, a food fair.  Hundreds of people and their dogs were walking through the small stalls with live music, entertainers and people on stilts. Hence the saying 'every man and his dog...'

The queues for chips and ice cream were too long so we walked back to the parking lot and got a 99cone from the van parked there.

A dinner of roast beef with yummy Yorkshire Puddings' was the perfect way to end this lovely Sunday in August.  Yup, counting my blessings...
