Last year I saw an ad on taking a waterplane trip over Loch Lomond which sounded fantastic. My brother had been up and said it's definitely a 'must-do'. Unfortunately it's a bit out of my budget but thought I will earn some money and do it this year. However at the beginning of the year on an Instagram post of Secret Scotland, a promotion of the Island of Tiree popped up and I had an inkling of an idea. Much searching later and realising that I could fly over to the island and avoid any possible ferry chaos I booked my trip. I didn't do too much research on the island because when I get nudges like this I like the element of surprise.
So right now I'm sitting huddled under the duvet because it's rather cool on the outer Hebrides. The rain was here to welcome me fortunately at the same time as a rather expensive 'bus hire'. The driver is a local who told me so much information about the locals, small businesses and sheep farming that I now have a lot more to Google. I'm in a hotel across from a beach and I took a quick 10 step stroll before I realised that I don’t need my shoes wet if I'm using them tomorrow.
The airplane trip was brilliant. A small 18 seater that bounced around on the runway and did the fastest u turn I've ever seen. They had a very quick turnaround time but I'm not sure if they had any passengers. Cloud cover stopped me from seeing too much on the journey but as we descended I saw lots of sea activity which I wondered if they were dolphins or whales. My bus driver said there's loads of both and he said a name in an accent I haven't quite got my ear around. He told me that his step son does sea cruises but I might be too late to book any.
For the next couple of days I'll be exploring and I'm looking forward to seeing a whole lot of new things.
I couldn't figure out what the strange noise was.... sheep bleating
Birthday treat to myself.
