Internet praise

Wednesday 4th October 2023

Today was a wet and chilly day, so I spent most of it under a cosy blanket on my brother's couch. It was ideal weather for phone calls, travel planning, admin and photo sorting. As a result, I don't have much in the line of travel photos today, haha.

Once again, I'm so grateful for the internet. I didn't have to go into a bank, travel agent, call box, post office, tax office, nor photo development shop. I didn't have to look for a map book of the UK, train timetable pamphlets nor write anything down in my diary. I also didn't need a game booklet, encyclopedia, nor watch the TV weather. I could chat with my friends that live thousands of miles away and not worry about running out of coins. I could send picture jokes without a fax machine nor the need for a stamp and I listened to a Johannesburg regional Radio Station without the need for a satellite.

The ease of the modern world often gets overlooked because of the huge overload that has Stephen Covey's quadrant 3 saying -all this information is urgent. But I remember those days of longing for a letter from afar, pining for the postman to drop a note through the door. How utterly amazing that now people can send me clips of their voices and better still, I can see them live in a video call.

Yup, I for one, love this smart phone and all the technology and connectedness it brings me.

Sending virtual love all over the globe!
