I visited the shops briefly this morning while my sister was at her yoga class. The sun was shining and it felt like a good day to start the holiday weekend. A lot of other people also felt the same as the small mall was rather busy. I tried on some different trainers but walked out with chocolate. Yes, I hate buying shoes, particularly when I am trying to pack lightly, but I do need new shoes.
My sister talked about a local pie speciality - beans, sausage and cheese pastie from Greggs. I'm all for tasting the local fare so we ended up finding a piping hot pie and I must say it was rather tasty. We then went past the local GP practice so I can register on the NHS. Why? Well, firstly my travel insurance for 90 days is now over and it's good to get on the system because of my early experience with the dentists. I plan to return next year for the summer as there's still 3997 castles for me to visit.
I then managed to get my running gear on and go for a run. My shins throbbed initially but then I spotted one of my favourite places- a cemetery, so I made my way over there. I know it sounds totally macabre but I find the cemeteries peaceful and interesting. The one today was extremely neat and has lovely tree lined pathways that I managed to run round on. Reading the headstones serves as a reminder that I'm alive and still able to do everything these people can't. Plus it is heartwarming to see so much love in one space, even though it is tinged with grief. I ended up getting carried away so by the time I got back to my sister's I had run further than planned.
After my shower my niece turned up with a 'fish supper' which went down a treat. A lovely day even though I'm still shoe hunting haha!
