I wanted to write 'I'm home' but I realise that my home is internal now.
I woke early this morning, recognising the sounds of the dawn highveld. I turned my pillows at an angle to watch the light from my top floor window. I was excited...
For my tour of the town, my return to Johannesburg and for my awesome experience of the past few months.
My hour before breakfast had me walking through the Oak View Manor seeing all the little quirks and delights. The owner, Dina suggested that I do a skit which I thought was a great idea. I asked her some technical details and got into my blue wig. (You can watch them here and here)
Tony, my tour guide arrived right on time and we set out exploring some of the beautiful houses from the late 1800s. Heidelberg was a gold mining town and there's some stunning examples of the stone houses. The best example being the big NG church and the jail.
The jail was left derelict for a few years until the local branch of the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (MOTH) moved in. It now houses mostly military memorabilia but it still pays homage to the history of it being a jail. Apparently many stories of ghosts have been reported and I must admit to having goosebumps a few times. Tony was a great host, but sadly a lot of the details have been forgotten by myself. I think I had shifted on to my trip back to the city.
After a crazy drive over the 4 lane highway that had me wishing for lockdown, because where did all these people come from? Haha.
It took me ages to unpack because I realised that I needed to record the bags and what I didn't use. But a few photos is all I managed. However, the dog and cat were happy to see me again ( I think)
I'm going to have a couple of days of no blogging, as I'm feeling the need for a phone detox. Plus my wrist is sore from holding the phone so much.
Thanks for reading and 'being's with me on this first phase of my World Tour of South Africa.
Luv ya!
