Home run.

With the excitement of my competition win making me feel overtired, I woke up feeling rather exhausted. But I had agreed to drive a friend down to my old hometown to visit her folks so shook myself out of bed quickly before I talked my way out of it.

My friend travels a different route to the Vaal Triangle and after all my years of commuting, I was very surprised to learn of this back route. It kicked in the tourist in me, but also made me miss the seaside. I also didn't stop to take any photos due to the constant rain we experienced on route.

The outward journey was not pretty but the return to the southern hills of Johannesburg looked impressive, due the deep green slopes enhanced with the dramatic lightning bouncing around.

My hometown looks haggard and scruffy, being the subject of a mismanaged municipality. Once, fancy houses lie empty and destroyed, while dodging potholes on the rain covered streets made for jiving driving.

I was tired when I got back and fell asleep watching some British TV. My furry companion snuggled on my lap too taking cover with the cooler temperatures if the constant rain. Summer feels foreign at the moment.
