Today was a chill day in both senses of the word, temperature and effort.
I was feeling really chuffed having made it through the night without a bathroom trip. Lying staring at the grey sky at 7am, I wondered when my nightly bathroom trips had started. I can't remember the time but I do know that in my twenties, I would get home from a non-broadcast TV work day after meetings or maintenance and have a 4 hour nap. I'd wake up, make myself a tin of soup and be able to return to sleep for my 'actual' 8 hours sleep. That young girl feels like an alien to me now.
With all my travels to different places and sleeping in different beds, I would have thought that I could return to being an epic sleeper, but I haven't.(yet)
In this really comfortable nesting period in between Ireland, York and Scotland, I get the chance to live in my sister's place and see how their daily life goes. My brother in law walks the dogs and does his chores and my sister goes to her yoga class and treats me to yummy food. My short term cocoon is a nice place to heal any lumps and bumps and get powered up for the next trip. I'm fortunate to have so many willing siblings that allow me to do this and I'm feeling really grateful again tonight. Plus my sister made 'Toad in the hole' -a classic British meal that I'd never tasted before. My sister is a great cook and I'm the lucky recipient of many tasty meals.
My summer wardrobe was feeling rather fresh so I'd popped to the shops in the morning, to stock up on a pair of fake fur lined leggings. I didn't need to wear them today though, plus the sun popped out in the afternoon. I spotted the sunset light on the clouds and marvelled at the changing tilt of the planet. With the sunsets now just after 7pm compared to the late nights of when I arrived in May, it's fascinating to watch the season change. A reminder of how quickly time can go, a reminder to stop and smell the roses, or in my case tonight- the Toad in the hole.
