Heading North to South

Updated: Oct 29, 2022

Friday 28th October 2022

My last weekend in the UK!  I'm feeling rather sad to be leaving which is different from my usual 'can't wait to get home' from previous trips.

I packed up my things from my bnb in the Isle of Wight and said goodbye to my 'host'. He must be one of the quietest hosts ever and this morning he even had this three year old son with him downstairs. He said the same of me, being quiet,  haha!

The weather was dull on my walk to the harbour. My ferry was absolutely mobbed.  End of the mid-term school holidays meant there were hundreds of kids and most of them demanding to be heard. They all came out of their cars just as me and the other solitary foot passenger looked at each other in horror, knowing our peaceful journey was over. Eventually I started to laugh at how ridiculous I'd become and focused on my journey.  I am amazed at how 'flat' the water behind the ferry seems so I had to Google but didn't get an answer that I could understand.  The trip was quick and I had to check my route to my hotel when I got off the ferry. The sun was out so I decided to walk to clear my lungs.

Southampton has a long history being at the bottom point of the UK, so there's impressive Stone walls in sections that are very well kept.  I needed to rest so I stopped in a park and people watched before getting to my hotel.

I was able to store my backpack but not my small wheelie case due to space issues, so this prompted me to sort out the bag in the quiet, foyer lounge.  As I zipped it up empty and started googling charity shops to drop it off at, an older couple sat down and started chatting.  Next thing they were graciously thanking me for a hardly used (but Italian used) suitcase.

I then headed back outside to find some lunch and walk around the ruins a bit more. After a burger and photos I walked back to the now very crowded streets full of shoppers. I was grateful to be ducking into the quiet of my room until a fire alarm chased me into the passage.  It stopped before I made it outside, thankfully, plus there's no smoke anywhere.

Now for some Medlemon and some sleep without the need to concentrate on very steep stairs down to my bnb bathroom
