Thursday 10 March 2022
Well, the day arrived and I handed the keys back to an Isuzu employee (at least I hope he was!) My beautiful blue bus was driven out of the driveway by someone other than myself.
Yes, I was sad but I had also braced myself for the moment so it wasn't as heart wrenching as it could have been. The wrenching happened a little later as I drove my tiny car out of the same driveway. My steering wheel felt incredibly heavy and the tyres felt deflated. Then, of course everything out of my rear view mirror felt like it was on my shoulders, because well, it was. I had the windscreen wipers on for a good half a minute while tried to figure out which side is the lever as I had pressed both sides to find my indicator. The brakes felt non existant until the last minute and I felt really low on the ground. But overall, I'm still grateful for a paid up, working 18 year old car. Plus she's a breeze to park.
My next task was to hunt down my passport and UK insurance card which I consequently found. In my packing up of my home contents I knew that I had left them somewhere fairly logical- just in case.
The 'just in case' is now a definite possibility of me heading north for the summer ( war/virus willing). My delayed trip of 2020 is being roughly adjusted and I am looking at possible seasonal work there and perhaps a shot of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Although that is still a huge big scary goal, I like giving myself impossible challenges every now and then.
In the meantime I am gearing up to co host a heritage tour early April so will be preparing that from Monday. All the delightful places to overnight beckon too and I am looking forward to seeing my home city in the eyes of a tourist again. I really need to work on sponsorship!
In the meantime, tomorrow I may have blog delays due to internet access issues being in Magoebaskloof which is a 4 hour drive away. And no, I'm not driving. That's going to be strange haha
