Thursday, Thursday, Thursday... I have keep repeating the day because my day of transit made a day disappear, haha.
Long haul flights are tricky for me. I envy my younger sister who can fall asleep as soon the plane taxis out on the runway. I think I might have managed an hour of sleep if I put it all together. My legs are lanky and feet get puffy, my arms and hands buzz, and then I get hot flashes....sigh. On the positive side, I had am empty seat beside me. The passenger on the aisle was his first time flying so it was nice seeing his excitement and helping him. I had my gadgets for my problems mentioned above, earplugs, eye pads, neck pillow and lavender oil...And the biggest positive? I was on the airplane!!!
Schipol Airport is amazing. It's huge and intimidating but I had no anxiety at all especially as I had a 6 hour wait for my connection flight to Newcastle. As I was walking from the airplane, I noticed an older lady look rather anxious. I stopped to help and she was a Scot from Edenvale on route to Glasgow and was overwhelmed. I walked her all the way to her departure gate and she repayed me with a lovely hug.
I found some comfy loungers near the meditation room and settled down to listen to some calming music on the free wifi. I relaxed with my puffy legs up and let my body catch up with the different hemisphere energy. I had a bit of heartburn though and felt quite uncomfortable so went off to find some mint tea.
Aahh. A charming little restaurant was just the treat I needed. Of course I had to try out one of the culinary works of art, and it was delicious. I had a moment of sheer delight that this is actually my life right now, that I got a bit teary.
Many hours later, having seen some of my family and been fed and watered, I'm still feeling the huge gratitude for all of it. Now, I'm looking forward to tomorrow's gratitude of a great night's sleep...
