Genus species

Friday 5th August 2022

Today I woke up back in the 'womb' of family.  After a couple of days exploring Edinburgh, it was refreshing to simply just catch up with everyone.

I love being part of my big clan. I used to say as a youngster, that if I was going to have kids it would be all or nothing, -a big family or none. I love the variety of personalities and characters that stem from the two sets of genes and I find the different traits fascinating. I have never regretted not having children of my own and my life choices have really all worked well to have me simply watch my niece be an excellent mother to two rapidly growing lads.

In our tribe there are those who are more inclined to the, shall I say, finer things, in life? Brand name clothes and shoes have never held my interest, because my attention leans to hotels, bnbs, or experiences. So I watched my 14 year old nephew who is about 6 foot tall walk proudly in his new trainers. Of course he had to get teased by his old auntie. When we parked up for a walk along the marina, there in the carpark were some abandoned trainers lying in a parking space, which provoked a laugh and of course, a photo. Definitely a sign, lol.

All the dogs were being happily walked on the beach, and I even spotted some swimmers braving the low tide of the North Sea.

There's a protected area for some migratory birds that come from West Africa to the Hartlepool Beach to lay their eggs. Birders kept a watchful eye on the activities and seemed to be monitoring the summer tourists. Much like I'm now- a summer tourist, although there will certainly not be any egg laying, but following the summer is a pretty good option!
