I'm feeling so grateful right now. A fabulous day and a fun night. I was thinking of my 40s and how I would never have imagined that I would be an ultra marathoner for that decade. But it was mostly due to the people that kept me at it.
In particular our little group of 4 ladies who have done Comrades, Oceans, Karoo, Om die Dam and many other races together. The girlie weekends are fabulous and I've missed them. Tonight we managed to get together for pizza as our lives have gotten rather convoluted and we are all running different distances at the moment. I'm so lucky to have these people in my life and past.
Runners are usually positive and upbeat. They can be incredibly supportive and it's great to be part of a lifestyle of planning forward. Big scary goals help and keep the challenge going. My big scary goal is 10km at the moment but I'm patient with myself and not judging (too much)
I had always thought that runners must be lonely because of it's a solo sport. But I was so wrong. In my fitter days we could chat for 4 or 5 hours literally on the trot. Some days it's nice to run in silence. But it's never a lonely sport. Once you have shared the road with someone on the Comrades Marathon (89km) you are friends for life. Even if you never see that stranger again, the connection is there forever.
Tonight, whilst season thunder shook the house, we had a great catch up in person. I feel so heart full.
