I woke up confused with Molly needing a midnight pitstop and shaking her ears awake. My first thought was
'How did Rusty get in my bedroom?' And then I remembered where I was. The early morning wake up call also didn't happen as Molly quite enjoys sleeping late. The morning was cool and soggy and I ran a shortened version with Molly because she's not quite as fit as her remote 'cousin' in the East.
I am very fortunate to have some fabulous friends and today I had an excited catch-up with a friend who flew in from Australia. We shared our middle school years and then Megan moved to the big city and I remained in my dorp. Imagine our surprise when we both showed up 3 years later at nursing college in Johannesburg without knowing that the other had planned on doing nursing. A world without social media is hard to imagine now, but life in the eighties was simpler and quieter.
Our friendship has been one of those stop- start meetings. Today the planets aligned for me to test drive my car on a longer open road as I went to Henley on Klip, which is to the south of Johannesburg. My diesel predictions suddenly went up while driving calmly up and I was amazed to see that I could get 950km on a tank instead of 750km when I filled up yesterday.
We had a lovely lunch and then she gave me a quick tour of her mother's home town. I also met the family 11 dogs and was amazed at watching this pack play on their plot.
Sadly the time went so fast and we had to say our goodbyes while viewing the current flood waters of the village. Fortunately the sun stayed kind to us and on my way home I even used my sun visor! Gasp!
I also took a look at the calendar, OMG I leave next week on my road trip and I haven't sorted all the gritty things that I had thought of. But then again, life has a way of coming together for me, so I'm not totally anxious. But I did think I had another full week. But hey, one moment at a time right?
