I'm still in some kind of small dorp/road trip glow/don't want this to end/ shock.
I had a really good sleep last night and shook awake at 5am after a hectic dream. But I was soothed by the breaking dawn and the lights of the freight ships twinkling. I felt so good that I even went out for a run! There was a footpath along the dunes which was in better condition than some of the South African roads so I managed a 5km run(walk). I even had breakfast with a view. Unfortunately I had to pack my bags but I was excited about tonight's accommodation.
The drive to Somerset East was very pleasant and I stopped at the hamlet of Middleton. I was last there on a drive with my UK siblings to see dad in Port Elizabeth (Ggeberha). It was a hotel then but today is a rehabilitation center called Noupoort. The old church was built in 1903 and the old train station is now the pub which had the cheapest food I have seen. I turned off to Somerset East not long after my lunch stop and noticed how different and green the area looked.
Somerset East is one of those unexpected gems and I am so pleased that it is on route to Nieu Bethesda. My bnb has a converted Catholic Church as it's restaurant and bar.
There's beautiful buildings dotted around the streets and a handsome museum that was closed for lunch but a working alarm system which I set off unknowingly.
I was fortunate to step outside around 5 to go for a walk but ended up having a beer shandy with the owners and three ladies who come through from Nieu Bethesda! After a pint of it, I am quite amazed that I am able to write this without tpyos lol! Going to do a Katryn video tomorrow but I also have an early client so busy day ahead.
