Edit memory

Thursday 10 August 2023

I'd forgotten how long editing video takes. In fact I'd forgotten how my little editing app works, it's been that long since I used it. I was busy till midnight last night and that was only one of many videos I'm preparing for my online tour. Tonight's editing took about an hour so I'm getting faster.  I wish I hadn't said yes to this volunteer tour while I'm overseas,  it feels like my attention is being diverted from experiencing my amazing stay fully,  but that's not a real complaint,  I still have lots of time to do things, it makes me more organised.

And I was so organised this morning I contacted my local South African friend because I knew she came into the city for work today. Fortunately she didn't have any after work plans so we decided to meet up later.

The morning flew by, with my writing a couple of scripts, and recording some more videos.  My character is HB Marshall and he was a blonde moustached man, which is a pity because if he was dark haired, I could have just drawn on a moustache. But I looked around for options and I saw a fluffy teddy bear that had some loose bits. Some masking tape looked like it was going to do the trick  and it even helped alter my voice for a different character. Unfortunately I had a prop fail and I thought there's no way I'm going to have continuity so I abandoned the fluff.

The weather stayed glorious today so when it was time to meet my friend I didn't even take a warm jacket. The city was buzzing with lots and lots of young office workers all standing on the pavements outside pubs. It was so crowded on one section we had to squeeze through.  I was amazed and again the buildings everywhere are just fantastic.  Any direction I look there's something of interest.

My friend took me to Neal's Yard which was quieter although still a half hour wait for a table to have a humongous pizza that we shared (with some for tomorrow too). It was lovely walking around an area that felt undiscovered and it was fabulous to see my friend so comfortable in her new life here.

We both got on the tube back to our respective places and I walked through a lot more 'high' people when I got out of the station. For the most part they don't bother people apart from asking for spare change. And I spotted my first guy in the road at the traffic light harassing a driver. I almost laughed at how unusual it looked.
