I woke in Bloemfontein after a fairly good sleep but I didn't feel like touring in any way, so I ate the 'free breakfast' and left the city by 8am.
I think my early start might have caught the truck line because there were far more than my previous two days. Plus the road was mostly single lane which meant overtaking. Some trucks don't go into the wide shoulder and don't go a spark over 80km/h which meant I was concentrating really hard on my driving while singing loudly to my music.
I stopped in at Colesburg and was slapped with a lashing of 30 degree heat. I walked around the pretty streets looking for a Cafe but all I found was a pub open and I decided against the stale smell of beer. I turned into Hanover which was rather grim so carried on to my destination in Richmond to get some lunch.
Richmond is a quaint village with some fabulous buildings, art gallery and bobotie! It was delicious (and cheap). After I checked in and visited the art gallery I took a stroll to take pictures of the buildings. Apparently there was 'weather' yesterday and some of the apartments got flooded. I spotted a divine coffee shop and wolfed down home made ice cream, with ginger beer. It was delicious and the only thing available because the kitchen was closed till 5. The small dorpies remind me of Spain. Closing at 1 on a Saturday and only reopen on Monday. Nice and calm and restful on a Sunday/Domingo
At sunset, I was given a beautiful treat of hundreds of Rock Kestrel birds coming in to roost in the tall trees besides my apartment and I was in awe. They flew silently and I couldn't tell what kind of birds so I asked the neighbours on their stoep who were watching too and they informed me.
Spectacular.
Feeling very grateful tonight.
