Dip outside

Saturday 9th December 2023

Almost back up to 85% human capacity today and I was thrilled at sleeping through again! The dogs don't change their alarm clock so I knew at 6am they'd be calling. Right on schedule there was a morning bark. I could feel at that early hour that the day was going to be a hot one so after I had done my chores, I plotted a swim.

Harley, the Labrador, of course was delighted and he got excited at the sight of what I brought out what must be swimming towels. The bulldog stayed far-away from any water activities but Harley and I played fetch and splash and I eventually got my head under the water. With the pool temperature of 24°C I thought of my mad friend and sister in law who swim in the cold waters of the Scottish Lochs and English Channel, brrr! It felt so good to be floating in the sun, although I need goggles because I can't swim with my eyes closed and chlorine is strong.

My excitement continued with a meet up with the running gals and it was great to hear a snippet of the last six months of their lives. Having shared literally thousands of miles on foot, with these ladies, it's a friendship that has the longevity and fun. We used to have running weekends out of town but I'm currently a supporter in that arena so we're hoping for a weekend away to catch up properly.

The temperature soared to 33°C outside so I was grateful for the aircon in my Smartie. It feels strange to be driving again and some of the potholes have been filled. Mind you there's a whole new shopping complex refurbished near my sister so it's nice to see that businesses are still investing in the city.

I smelled a distant cloud burst while letting the dogs do their business and it was great being able to recognise the local bird calls. Unfortunately the rain stayed far away so the lawn continued to dry out in the late afternoon heat, but hopefully the rain will appear soon. ( Yes, a week ago I was in snow, and wishing the rain away, it's mind blowing to think it) Apparently there might be a 'cold front' tomorrow so I can blame the weather change on my first swim of the season, lol.
