Genetics are fascinating. Being one of seven children, I've always looked at the full scale of the family and then observe all the individual differences. Despite the same genetic factors as well as the same circumstances, all seven of us are so very different. I enjoy spending time with all of the siblings and discovering the different styles of thinking and processing and how they live their lives.
Three of us went for a long(ish) walk in the sunshine today and I laughed at how different our body shapes are. On these walks, I tend to hang back a little and stop and take pictures. Today it felt like Autumn, with the cooler breeze nipping at our ankles. I noticed all the many berries showing up and I realised that I don’t know the names of plants and trees here. The birds are still mostly unnamed for me too, as yesterday I spotted a stunning bird of prey with a longer tail and I couldn't shout out 'kestrel' or some other familiar southern hemisphere name. But not knowing these things, didn't stop me from enjoying the stunning displays of thorny bushes, muddy paths, thick grasses and the occasional farm smell.
We did a long loop and passed through the lovely park and I was pleased to see that all of the Cygnets seem to have made it through the season. They're looking full size now and I wondered at what age do they leave the 'nests' and go find their own pond and territory. There's some stunning large houses and one in particular caught my eye with massive clear windows with not one iron burglar bar in sight.
Some of the locals greeted us as we passed by and I waved at some of the window-dogs, barking their afternoon greetings at us. To round off the gentle day, my sister (who got a cooking gene) made us delicious salmon and filled my tummy with tasty food.
And just like that we are one day away from the Autumn equinox, where day and night are almost equal in length.
