I decided I needed to step out into the world today despite all the storm predictions and the driest place would be the mall. The bus stopped just as the rain started and I climbed on and found my usual seat. Big window, clear view. Fortunately my brother's house is at the start of the bus ride so I usually have an empty bus for a few stops.
The mall was busy but not mobbed. It's the school's mid-term break so there were many tweens walking around. I had a few small things to get today so I started off in Boots, the big pharmacy style shop. My sister had told me about the variety of Christmas gift sets that appear just before Halloween but I hadn't anticipated how much of a visual buzz it would give me. Every possible combination imaginable is boxed and prettied up. I'm amazed at the cost of living crisis, lol. I was quite glad that I've got my shopping (mostly) under control- if I can't pack it, I can't buy it. I did feel that retail pull though, which is incredibly strong and compulsive but I mostly resisted.
I did buy some hair curl potions because this wet weather is making my hair wild. I'd seen a beauty video about working with the curl online ( strange yes, I know) and wondered if I could do something about the natural wave.
After my run around the mall and stroking the fluffy clothes in Mark's, I was done so I hopped on the bus. An after-care class got on the bus and I smiled at all these kids speaking like me. For most of my life my accent hasn't been in the majority, so I still find it strange that my accent 'fits in'. I know it seems small and insignificant but it feels really cool, yet strange to hear all these kids rolling their 'r's' and sing-songing at the end of their sentences.
I washed my hair and tried out the curl look and settled down to watch some TV. I tried to find the 'live' channels for the rugby match but I felt like I was on starship enterprise and I'm normally quite good at fiddling with buttons. After getting instructions from my brother's holiday villa in Spain I still got stuck. Eventually I gave up and continued with my police drama on one of the apps.
I'm going to see an old folk band, Lindesfarne, tomorrow night so I'll be spared the stress of watching the rugby again. I'm told that all the band members are dead, but it's almost Halloween, right? Haha. I'm realising that sometimes replacement artists can be just as good as the original- like Mike Oldefield's show. So I'm looking forward to it! Fog on the Tyne....
