Cruise for heaven tastes

Friday 7th July 2023

What a great day we had, not that the others weren't great at all but today felt special.

Perhaps it was because it was the last day of this unusual mysterious country with stunning, calm people. Perhaps it was because the port view didn't look like much compared to the postcard views of the Fjords.  But it just felt great.

We left the ship rather late after Angie fell back asleep but the weather held for us to wander comfortably across the bridge into a quaint pedestrian street. We found the Marilyn Monroe statue which sits aside the waters edge. Not sure of the pose they chose but her face had a great likeness.

Instead of paying for the hop on tour bus, we decided to jump on a local bus which the driver kindly let us do for free for a short drive into the suburbs.  We chatted to a fellow cruise passenger doing the same thing and she told us that she's staying on this ship for 52 days! Seems like professional cruising is a real thing. I don't think I'd cope to be honest. I'm feeling hemmed in a bit, and that's only a week! I get a little nervous going far from the ship which I know is silly but then, that's me.

After visiting the big church that was quaintly chiming tunes across the square,  we walked into a mall that looks bleh on the outside but Norwegian on the inside. There is amazing home decor here and I think in a previous life I may have lived here, even the style of clothes suits my taste. I only bought a fleece though,  this nomad is not being fashion conscious at all,  haha.

As we were making our way back to lunch on the ship, I spotted a sign for classic Norwegian waffles and coffee for NK100. (£7)  The Cafe was stunning and we almost sat outside but the rain had started. The waffle arrived with a little slice of heaven on it. Brown cheese. Made from whey or goats milk, it tasted almost caramel like but was just too amazing.  Completely satisfied,  we boarded the ship feeling accomplished.

Setting sail soon for Dover with a whole day at sea tomorrow,  so no wifi.  See you on the other side! Thanks for coming with me on my first ever cruise and visit to Norway!
