Today we docked in Molde. It felt fairly warm although the cloud lay thick and heavy overhead. We took a leisurely breakfast and then walked through the customs over to what turned put to be a lovely shopping block with soft chairs and free wifi! Bonus!
After uploading my blog and checking in a few things we headed outside.
We had sea legs on the shore today, it's the weirdest feeling, having the ground sway while walking. Plus it only happened after a while of us being on land.
Angie suggested we get on a regular bus and just go where it takes us. So we did that. It drove through the suburbs and on windy roads before weaving it's way back to town. I'd read that Molde is known as the Rose city and the flower beds laid testimony to that. We had to smell all the varieties and were pleased that all but one had a lovely aroma.
I spotted a high church spire up some stairs so left Angie below waiting while I went into the serene building. I'm still trying to figure out the right words to describe the aesthetics of my experience of Norway. There's more colour in the ordinary than in the UK but it's almost contained, if I can say that. Organised, most definitely but a calmer feel than anxious Brits. Perhaps I'm trying too hard to describe it, lol. A lot of the houses here reminded me of Switzerland and the Alps just straighter, haha.
The local people that I've seen (and I'm not sure where they all are) are stunning too. Slim, and healthy, with long plaits of hair. Their English is 1000% times better than my Norwegian. Their supermarket looks as clean as a hospital.
With fishing and the sea having played such an integral part of their history, I wasn't that surprised to see a model of a boat hanging from the church ceiling and an anchor painted on the alter floor. There seems to be a lot of silent respect for their environment.
We got back to the ship early and I went for a walk as the sun began to show up and the outside decks were dry. I ended up coming back to change into my running gear and I managed a 4km loop while watching the anchor team sort out the massive ropes before we head out into wider water to our next stop, Olden.
