Circles and life

Monday 29th May 2023

Today was a public holiday in Scotland so it had a Sunday feel about it, plus the glorious sunshine continued.

We breakfasted with my other sister Pearl and her husband before they set out on their journey home. The beauty of all my lovely siblings is getting to spend time with them in different places.  After they left, we decided to go for an easy walk to help Debbie loosen her legs. She felt surprisingly good with only a couple of blisters but as the day aged, she got a little stiffer.

The small town center had a real holiday feel and we saw many hikers posing beside the WHW column at the starting point. We found a quirky tea room and sat on the pavement eating fruit scones in the sunshine.  Dogs and their owners panted by and I ended up trying to sit in the shade. Debbie didn't really believe me when I told her that I'd had great weather here last year and she doesn't read this blog to know that I wasn’t fibbing.

We wandered round Tescos really looking at all the different varieties of groceries in amazement.  Converting the currency made the food prices similar to those in South Africa,  but here there is regular great deals that make it cheaper if you have the time.

We strolled through the very busy play park and laughed at a French Bulldog refusing to get out of the stream and walk up the hill with his owner. One of Debbie's school friends drove over to see us and we sat outside in the beer garden,  catching up on life and land.

Debbie leaves Scotland tomorrow for England and I return to my brother's. It's strange to think that her race is now over and done with. This race which was the prompt for my lifestyle and my decision to become a nomadic swallow. The completion of the circle of the hike which prompted my running in 2005, and Debbie's dream of running it.

Life is funny and magical and what a gift it is to relish.
