I harnessed the energy of a new week and started getting myself organized. My phone screen cracked when I dropped it in Durban, but I almost dropped it again when I was quoted almost twice the price of car windscreen. So I stomped off to the cellphone shop downstairs.
As it happens, November has a legacy of commercialism because of our American cousins and Black Friday, which benefits me hugely. I can get a phone and a tablet on a good deal.
With my old tablet deciding it didn't want to accompany me on my World Tour, this was great news for my budget.
This is all rather boring stuff to read no doubt, but if one person reading it needs a new phone and a tablet and this helps then yey! (It's from Telkom)
I haven't received the phone yet, still waiting for stock.
The young chap in the shop hesitated when I asked him how good is this flip phone, and asked a few specifics, and then I asked him why he'd hesitated, was there a 'but' in his reply? He laughed and answered
"Can I be really honest with you? I was so surprised by this old person asking me about this phone, that it threw me completely ..."
We laughed and I said as long as the phone is good he can call me old, and address me as mam... He was still surprised by my technical knowledge when he was doing the paperwork.
I had thought that today would be more admin oriented, and organising and brain storming new strategies on earning money to fund my tour. But the ideas pop in regularly so I am not too concerned with not getting the physical stuff done. Once I am ready to do something, all procrastination dissipates and suddenly I find myself in my tiny car going over the Drakensberg.
