I went to run! OK it was a limp round the Hillside Parkrun but it was a lovely morning. My ankle that I rolled over last week, was surprisingly sore when I put my running shoes on, but I'd committed to going. It's great to see a different part of the world on foot and it was busy enough to see people on the route but quiet enough to feel like I was walking in the bush by myself. I also took my camera on route, which was fun.
One of the more difficult things to adjust to on my gypsy lifestyle is the showers. I can handle different beds, pillows and parking spaces but I have experienced the strangest showers. This bnb's shower is either scorching hot or cold. I had to catch the gap in between the extremes to wash out the shampoo and I was thinking about the familiarity of my own shower. It made me think of my Camino trip and the awful bathrooms that saw my manky feet, but I managed to get most of the shampoo out in time for me to meet my course lecturer.
We met at a restaurant in a park, Huckleberrys, and had a delightful lunch. I love it when I meet people who I instantly click with. I immediately forgave her for all the stress of my paperwork, lol!
Afterwards she invited me to meet one of her fascinating friends and I spent the rest of the afternoon hearing about Ann's 'Outspan lady days' in France as well as her spending 2 years with Marcel Marceau. Then the years in Italy where she convinced the local Italian Embassy that they needed to give her a bursary. Stories that are just extraordinary and I hope to meet up with her when I get back and hear more.
Pretoria definitely needs a long stay and a good explore.
