Catching up again

Tuesday 18th July 2023

I met up with more South African friends today. But one was visiting her resident daughter,  so it was great to see her this side of the equator. Her lovely daughter is one week away from giving birth, and I must confess to feeling a little nervous at the prospect of any early arrivals.

The sun was out so when I saw that the bus would be 1 minute faster than walking, I decided to walk. I love going through the different streets, seeing the building styles, restaurants and all sorts of different cultures in this fascinating city. I got to Clapham Common quicker than expected so I popped into the charity shops that seemed pricey compared to others I've been in. Charity shops are interesting as all sorts of different items are sold as used goods. There was a lovely handbag that caught my eye but £30- seemed rather steep so it stayed on the shelf.

We sat a local pavement Cafe and had a very pleasant catch up. Laurie had worked in the area so she told us that late designer, Vivienne Westwood had lived nearby so naturally she had to take me there. Unfortunately the building was hidden behind scaffolding so didn't get to see the actual house but I took a picture of the not so famous house next door.

There are a lot of 'green spaces' in the city and today we strolled through the Clapham Common and later I joined 'Murphy' and my friend in Kennington Park. I was amazed to see Mulberries in a tree, so we had to eat one and get the purple stain on our fingers.

Many people were out enjoying the mild weather and making the most of the longer summer days. Schools break up this week and I'm heading north. I'm spending tomorrow night in a Blackpool hotel on route to another friend.  I'm feeling very rich with this wealth of lovely friends.
