Car market day

Updated: Jan 16, 2023

Sunday 15th January

Half way through the first month of the year already.  And it was another scorcher. A friend had invited me to join his family on a trip to a vintage car market in.... yup, Modderfontein. Seeing that I've been holed up without a car, I said yes to the 8am start. Fortunately it was the best time because when we left 2 hours later the heat was sizzling.

It was a world full of Testosterone and high revving of old cars, a band called '60 shades of gray' playing tunes, and young fires starting up for the lunchtime braais. The market reminds me of the old markets of my youth, plenty of junk, but thousands of collectors toy cars, dinky cars! It's fascinating walking around and I did visit it once before when I housesat in the area in 2021 but it was a lot busier today.

The cars on display went up to 2003, which is hard to imagine all of them being 'vintage'. My Smartie will be a vintage next year, lol. Cars parked up looked like my childhood in petrol.  It was great seeing how good some of them look but I was grateful to leave when we did.

The hot temperatures had me get in the swimming pool again when the power went off for the 8th hour since midnight. I then lay on the lawn gathering some vit D while admiring the blue sky and just felt connected to everything,  except Eskom, haha!
