Canterbury tales

Wednesday 1 June 2022 The symbolism of the new month and my birthday month at that, post tooth extraction, was a good sign and I woke up feeling relief at only a bruised jaw feeling. That- I can handle.

I tested the weather by walking a patient Molly up the short street, giving her time to really sniff the doggy 'newspapers'. I loaded my backpack under my jacket and set off for the city.

I considered doing a formal tour but by the time I reached the center I was feeling a bit dizzy and thought I'd sit somewhere and look for online tour guidance. I ended up at a pleasant Cafe a bit further away from all the tourist cafés which helped perk me up.

One thing I did want to do is walk on the medieval city wall. It's not as complete as the cities of York, but I was still keen. I even did a quick video. I wandered around graveyards, tried to open church doors and felt the stones in walls. I found the crumbling castle and by then I started to head back to Anna's.  I was quite impressed, all that walking added up to close to 10km!

Anna and Mark decided to take me out for supper and I felt a slight panic while eating my risotto because there was more chewable items than my mouth has been handling these past 2 weeks. But it was very tasty. I was given a nice drive tour in Mark's electric car, and saw some small villages get ready for Jubilee day for the Queen tomorrow.

Tomorrow, I head off to Bury St Edmonds by train and although I am looking forward to meeting up with my friend, I'll be sad to be leaving this lovely bed and city that I didn't get chance to properly experience. I can, however,  tell anyone where all the dentists are!
