Today was a rather busy day starting with both cats crossing my path in the dark passage on my return from the bathroom. They both ran into my room and I wondered if there would be fur flying. The brown cat is a recent addition to the household so there's still a lot of territory to sort through and I was a part of it. As the new cat jumped up on the bed, the other one left and Milo decided to block my view of my phone. I was trying to capture the sunrise sky with clouds but I gave up and accepted the purr therapy.
My niece and I had decided to go to the nearby nature reserve for a gentle walk. It was a stunning autumn morning and we stopped at the refurbished bird hide for a rest. The summer rains had caused a lot of damage in the reserve and I'm really pleased to see that a lot of repairs have been done. The hide was repaired by volunteers and I think there are many local people who love this park. Unfortunately the gold mine tours have been put on hold due to rockfalls, just as I start getting interested in the history of gold and the city. This mine was the first goldmine on the reef and I was amazed at thinking how ox wagons had to weave their way through this wild, hilly terrain.
We spotted the small duiker deer next to the parking which was exciting for me as I hadn't ever seen them in this reserve.
We had a quick breakfast Jaffel at a nearby Mary Poppins coffee shop for R20- and then our afternoon was filled with possible job interviews and the cutting down of a neighbours stunning Thorn tree.
Unfortunately the Fibre line was damaged so tonight I'm hoping my phone data manages to get this blog online. The dogs were tired from all the barking and activity and the bulldog seemed fine after yesterday's nausea. It felt like a real summers evening while I was waiting for the tree cutters to finish off. The stars were bright, crickets were loud and the smell of braais wafted through the air. By the time I came to bed, the air had chilled and the cold tiles bit into my barefeet. Perhaps tomorrow will be cooler than the lovely mild days I've been having. Either way, I spoke to the remaining swallows dipping into the nature reserve dam, and told them I'll see them soon on the other side.
