Brix-ney London

Tuesday 14th November 2023

The fire alarm went off at 5.30am. It was only in my friend's flat but it still jolted me out of bed wondering why she had such a loud alarm clock. I realised that there'd been far less sirens during the night than had been in the summer weeks. But there's been plenty sirens so far tonight.

The early morning weather looked clear but it soon changed as I stepped outside with gray cloud bulking up the sky. I walked around the Brixton town and spotted some art, through a quiet market and by the time I got to the station, the Caribbean sounding busker was playing his happy tunes at the entrance. It's such an amazing city and I'm so fortunate to experience it. It seems like there's a lot more homeless people on the streets which is always sad to see, but worse now because of the damp and cold.

I made my way over to Putney where I was meeting my friend who'd managed to block out an hour of her work schedule for a quick lunch. I got through on the train quickly, and this time I was grateful for the overheated Victoria subway line. It started to rain on arrival in Putney but I managed to walk quite a bit, seeing the river as well as the Half Moon pub which I'd missed last year. This pub is where I saw hearthrob band, eVoid way back in 2014 and I smiled as I recognised the windows and layout.

My friend arrived promptly and we both had a (too sweet for me) orange hot chocolate. It's so nice to catch up with her and hear all about how she settling in her new life in London.

On my way back to the station, my eyes caught a glimpse of some property in a window, but unfortunately I didn't see anything cheaper than half a million pound, which is around R12mil. There's my lottery win coming in soon though, so 'never say never'!
