Bridges and brother

The sky was stunning this morning so I thought it would be a good time to go out for a jolk - a mix between a jog and a walk. I had underestimated how chilly the breeze would be though so when I stepped outside I gasped. Fortunately I had a hood to put up because my neck was freezing but I'm still giving myself 5 'extra points' because I didn't rush back inside, haha. I knew the view would be stunning so I proceeded to the corner where I saw the first clear view of the bridge.

I had to find out a bit of history of this beautiful chunk of metal spanning almost 1 and a half miles over the Forth River. Construction started in 1882 and it took seven years to complete. It replaced the use of many ferries between Queensferry and South Queensferry. Lots of design issues had delayed the initial building of a bridge because a solid rock foundation wasn't found. A lot of the design details are lost on me, because of words like caissons and cantilevers but the structure itself is still a sight to see. It's quite a fascinating story of the design and construction but my brain isn't computing well tonight so I'm putting the website here for you.

My jolk was great, thanks to the completely different light and sunshine. I walked the uphills and ran the downhills and my brain felt refreshed. The run back was even better because the wind came from behind and less icy.

My brother was cycling through from Glasgow with some rail help here and there, but it was a great day for his bike ride. We popped in to see our lovely uncle and it was nice to see him enjoy some different company other than mine.

My throat is complaining again now, which is such a nuisance because I thought I'd caught the germ in it's tracks earlier in the week. Hopefully I sleep the bugs away and feel better tomorrow.
