Today was a body day for me. You know, those things that get to carry our spirit everywhere? Yip, that bundle of bones and tissue all tied together with a layer of waterproof, magical stuff called skin. I'm really fortunate today, to have not just one, but TWO lovely humans that gifted me with bodywork.
My first appointment was with my old clinic partner, who does Bowen therapy amongst other tweaks and squeaks. I partnered with him from 2018 for around 15 months and I really enjoyed working alongside him. I've been fortunate to have amazing people to bounce ideas and concepts off of, and Sean had a different perspective on things. His treatments usually hear me squeal in surprise when his micromovements find an area of unexpected sensitivity.
The next appointment was with my long term masseuse and even longer friend, Lorna, at the Premier health center in Blairgowrie. My sister's car (Fiat) started doing it's own kind of squealing when I was about 5 minutes away from Lorna. There's that moment of sheer panic when the warning lights come on, but the terror intensified as the engine went lame mid busy intersection. Fortunately I'd crested the top of the hill and was able to roll down to a safe place in front of the fire station and try get it going again. After a few 'technical taps' and some teeth grinding, it slid back into gear and resumed transmission.
Lorna treated me gently and even made me a cup of my 'special coffee ' afterwards. My body reminded me of how much maintenance I've neglected over my life but fortunately there weren't any noisy alarm bells like the Fiat.
I stopped by at my friend with the view and had to take a photo again. The west side of Johannesburg looks so lush and green right now. I could hear myself sigh as I looked out across to the ridge which is responsible for this city's existence. Witswatersrand ridge, where the gold deposits were visible to some pioneers some 150 years ago. The view makes it easy to daydream...
My body is grateful for the hands that worked through the aches and pains and I'm looking forward to a great night's sleep.
