Blueberry breakfast

Today I had breakfast with a long time friend. Probably since 1972/3. My friend dated my brother when we were all fresh freckled immigrants to a very conservative industrial town, 80km from Johannesburg. After the short lived romance, she disappeared from the town.

Decades later, the magic of the internet plus a synchronistic meeting with a different friend, she shows up in my world, a mere 2km from my house.

And just as my 8 year old self remembered, she is still as fantastic. Now, newly retired, we could plan a week breakfast instead of having to squeeze it into a weekend. A daylight trip to a new hotel in the neighbourhood presented spectacular views over the west side of the city. The wind turned chilly this morning which meant indoors eating, however by the time we left ( around lunch) it had warmed up enough for our photo shoot. It was her first visit to this Blueberry Hotel but I don't think it will be her last.

Some friendships never end, they are just on pause while life gets in the way.
