February is a month full of birthdays for me and today my friend had hers. She came down from Johannesburg to start her new year at the sea so after lounging about in our girly way for the morning, we headed to Knysna for lunch. The staff were really attentive and made it special by singing to her.
Afterwards went up to the viewpoint of the Knysna Heads. It was the best weather to stand on the decks and look down at the rockface and swirling sea below. I haven't been in this area for almost 30 years and it is hard to think that I could forget how beautiful it is. There's so much beauty around it's almost overwhelming but sometimes the narrow winding roads makes me forget completely about any view.
We took a drive past Brenton Beach where I had never been before plus I hadn't seen the view of the Knysna lagoon from this angle of the road. However I was feeling very nervous on the drive up with no shoulder on the road and sheer drop off the cliff. I think not driving for a few days had obviously 'softened' me a bit, lol. My friend offered to drive down but my car is only insured for me. Once we got back on the N2 we both wondered why the upwards trip had been so much longer and scary(for me) than the journey down. Somedays I am amazed that this scaredy-cat driver is actually doing a solo road trip.
We were treated to a marvelous sunset again.
Special times.
