Saturday 23rd September 2023
I woke up around 4am and lay there trying to avoid thinking about future plans and instead decided to reflect on the year so far. I had the hilarious image of me doing a 'skit' in the middle of an interview and I started chuckling with laughter. I might not have gotten that job but at least it gave them and me a good laugh. Then I remembered my 'army niece' saying to flutter my eyelids rapidly - which helps to fall asleep. I think it worked because the next thing it was light.
We were having a girlie birthday lunch at a local Italian restaurant so we got ready in an easy manner. It started to rain by the time we got there. I remembered that the birthday girl had once worked at the same restaurant and she worked out that it was about 24 years ago. The deco hadn't changed much other than be painted over. There's lots of 'Christmas babies' celebrating their birthday and I was surprised by how busy the restaurant was.
Afterwards we had tea and home baked birthday cake and it was great to be able to share in the celebrations. Living so far away all these years, I've missed out on many a birthday so I'm enjoying this time. This time out from my usual adventuring has been very rewarding and next weekend, I head back up to Scotland for a bit.
