Banks, churches and cheesecake

Updated: Mar 2, 2023

Tuesday 28th February 2023

The last day of February started off with a great breakfast in this stunning quirky hotel and chatting to a fascinating couple who rode motorcycles from Stuttgart to Durban.  I had thousands of questions and they were very open to bring bombarded before they finished their omelettes.  It certainly lit a spark of possibility of different travel. Although I certainly won't be riding any motorcycle through Africa anytime soon(or in future)

I set off with my map to continue my exploration of the town. In a way it reminds me of my time in Durban because everything is a short drive away.  I  wanted to find the old Standard Bank  and I ended up chatting to the wonderful owner of the current business,  an interior design company.  I love hearing stories from local people and everyone has a unique story. It just feels ordinary because you're living it.

I then popped over to the stone NGK church and was allowed inside. Again the interiors of these grand churches disappoint because there's not much colour and details like the magnificent stone masonry on the exterior.

I then tried to drive up to the look out point next to a huge cross. But turned back, half way up because the road started getting very unsmart. It was still a nice view at my turn around point.  The weather had turned very hot so I took a rest at a coffee shop and had delicious cheesecake. There's a stream that winds its way through and under the town,  Blesbokspruit. It was right beside the coffee shop and I wondered if it ever floods.

The rest of my afternoon was mellow and I ended up eating the same supper as last night. Fortunately I'd finished my meal as some men sat down at a table beside me and started smoking. That was my cue to leave and I finished uploading my second book on my coffee site. You can buy it here, if you feel like a read and I will welcome the support. The rain came down again and I'm hoping to get into the museum tomorrow morning.

Another day of adventure and gratitude.
