I had a delightful day being shown around old ruins, steam trains, stone houses, fancy boats, ghost haunts, churches, dogs, flowers, Minster, chain ferry, charity shops, millionaires bend and ended with puppy breath and family love.
I don't need to expand any more. But I will, haha.
My friend grew up in the town of Poole and her grandmother worked here so it was fascinating being shown around areas that used to be something else and now an expensive block of flats, or an ex bank being a fashion store. I was also fascinated by a block of flats being built on top of an old cemetery. The rule here is that nothing can be built on the ground unless the newest grave is 100 years old. My friend remembered how quickly developers moved any remains away to a designated area and build their flats. I asked after ghosts, so was told that the area is renowned for being full of them. I laughed and then in one Cafe actually got goosebumps when I read about a young girl 'sighting'.
A highlight for me was the roof of the Minster in Wimbourne Church. The building was stunning and had a fancy clock with a 'guy' ringing the bell. It's a Saxon church, with Norman and Gothic architecture. But the tower ceiling took my breath away. The architects of those ancient times knew something about creating a lasting impression. To make people gasp as they look up in awe can feel like an ecclesiastical experience. This concept was explained to me by my 'history professor ' on the Camino in 2016 and it makes sense to me. I smiled all day and I'm just in my element.
Stories, buildings, cake and great company, it's just all so amazing. Tomorrow I move to a friend in London. Totally loving all my experiences.
