Art tour in the city

Updated: Aug 28, 2023

Sunday 27th August 2023

The sun and seagulls woke me at 8am. I was startled and I had just been 'singing harmony in a singing contest. Perhaps my dreams spilled over and I disturbed the seagulls by my haunting (or perhaps wounded?) sounds, haha. I decided to not linger in bed, no matter how funny the dog videos on Instagram were today, and got into the shower.

By the time I was at the bus stop, the sun had disappeared but I wasn't put off. I was heading to the University grounds, which I haven't properly explored. I'm always surprised by how quiet Sundays are in the UK. People rise late, and the shops open later- if at all, it reminded me of Spain and their Domingo calmness. The early risers on my bus were older people and some church goers. I had a quick square sausage and a coffee in Greggs for under £3 and boarded my second bus. I'd realised that my route planning had included a 30 minute walk so I altered my plans to stop in the city centre and take it from there. My feet are still moaning at me with the squidgy neuromas so I was hesitant to walk too far.

I'd forgotten how much I love Glasgow. The buildings are an absolute treat and I spotted some street art so decided to follow the alleyways and see what I could find. I was pleasantly surprised, plus I saw the Willow Tea Rooms inspired by Glasgow artist Charles Rennie MacKintosh so I booked a table for lunchtime.

The buskers play in the pedestrian areas, and the streets began to busy up. I spotted a few tour groups being guided and wondered how well they were doing. There's a few groups that I follow on Facebook and thought I should come back in for a tour one day.

The street art is stunning and I enjoyed stumbling onto some that I hadn't seen anywhere before. At my lunchtime break I Googled the map and realised that I was very close to some others so looked them up too. My knees suddenly tweaked strangely too so decided that my body had had enough and headed for the bus stop back to my brother's couch. I finished off my series and then my nephew ordered us in some Chinese take out, which was surprisingly tasty.

The university tour will wait for another day, I had a great unplanned tour instead.
