Around the world tour of South Africa: day -1

I never expected that my car mechanic's plot would be my first unofficial day of my world tour. My specialist mechanic lives in between two major cities, Pretoria and Johannesburg. This area, called Midrand used to be primarily farms and small holdings and now has a swanky station for our beautiful fast train, the Gautrain. My mechanic dropped me off at the station and as I stomped off the red soil from my shoes while sanitizing my hands, it felt like I was crossing a space gateway.

My dropped jaw was hidden by my mask as my eyes tried to take it all in and not get caught in any rush to catch the train. Operating since 2012, it still all looks brand new and squeaky clean. Although lockdown has cut it's services drastically by so many people working from home, I was still in awe at it all. I had about a 14 minute wait, which is probably just what I needed to slow my excitement down and experience my surroundings. The train glided up (is that a word? Lol) and of course I had to take a picture.

The photos didn't stop and I had some chit chat with some passengers and a gentleman who was as bewildered as I was in the very high escalators in Sandton station. I made my way to the bus section and looking out the window at the commercial hub of Johannesburg, I realised that I need to come explore this part of the world too.

After coffee, then an uber, I grinned my way through emptying my kitchen cupboards, knowing that my adventure starts the moment I step out of my door.

Let my games begin....
