Monday 20th February 2023
Today was one of those blue Monday kind of feelings. I could blame a whole lot of things, like only having 4 hours of power the whole day, or the soggy weather but it's probably a case of post-weekend-events blues. Lol.
I must confess to not being used to loadshedding. Since I got back from the UK early November, my sister's house was exempt from the dreaded planned outages. Before my return her area had been having crazy periods of not returning to the schedule and 5 or 6 days without power at a time. After all of that, the area seemed to be connected to some system that they didn't have the black-out timetable, so stayed powered up. There were a couple of 1, 2 and 4 days where we werecut off and the big freezer cook-up took place, of all frozen food. It was after the last large area outage that we were 'switched back on' to the loadshedding schedule, sadly.
So I wasn't weaned on to this 2-hours-off schedule properly. Now they have upped the crisis to 'level 6' and we've had 2 lots of 4 hours power-free blocks and now our 6pm 'return' hasn't happened. I know this is all sounding a bit moany and desperate, but it is feeling like that today.
It seems so crazy talking about electricity and energy like this, but it is a huge stressor with very little potential for solutions. Perhaps that's why my personal energy is feeling so drained today. The constant beep of the alarm system telling us it needs power, and then the bass drone and horrible fumes from the rumbling generator next door might be scratching at my nervous system.
I do know, however that tomorrow is a new day, with a new moon in the sky and there's always something to look forward to...
