A grave day

Updated: Jul 13, 2023

Wednesday 12th July 2023

The sun came out so I went for a run. My friend was very concerned about me getting lost but I reassured her that I wasn’t going too far. After googling the area I saw the sign for a cemetery so of course I made it my first stop.

It was much closer than it seemed on the map, so I started taking pictures.  As I went up the first lane,  a family were walking their cute dog. A grey Staffordshire terrier who spotted me and came bundling towards me grinning from ear to ear. I was delighted and she stretched her bum out as I gave it a good scratch. Her eyes closed in pleasure and the owner said that I've got a friend for life now. Which is exactly what I want to hear, dog friend forever. She was reluctant to leave the scratching and the owner shouted

'C'mon Nala....' I laughed at the name and it confirmed my synchronistic signs that I'd been having all morning.

I was thinking about my interest in cemeteries and wondered if it had to do with my new found interest in history. I suppose that's where the history begins... with the dead. Reading some of the descriptions of how some people 'went to sleep' or died at sea gives me a good feel of a town. I also wondered about the fading of the names on the headstones as the etchings get weathered over time.  In my head I heard clearly 'the whisper of the name is meant to fade'. Generations of families don't know their ancestors personally so it made sense to me in a way.

The rest of my run was very pleasant, running a while in a forest like park and then spotting a red Smartie when I met the main road again.

The rest of the day was rather physical. I helped on both the house and the garden and my friend took herself off to the doctor for the flu. She's feeling much better tonight and we spent hours yakking -again.

My brain is buzzing after our conversation now, so I might have to play a few mind numbing games to calm the stimulus. Haha
